MARKET ANALYST, BUYER’S AGENT, ACCREDITED ADVISOR
Simon Pressley
Propertyology Head of Research
QPIA®, GAICD, DIP FP, DIP FMBM, FREIQ, COMDEC
He is incredibly driven, has an innate interest in understanding the ‘why’ of property market performance, is not afraid to challenge the status quo, is a pragmatic introvert and a highly respected thought-leader.
Simon Pressley is the founder and managing director of Propertyology.
He is a Hall of Fame Inductee of both the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) and the REIQ.
Simon has carved out a career as a professional property investor and full-time analyst of the fundamentals of the property markets of all 8 capital cities and each of the 400+ regional townships throughout Australia.
Leading the Propertyology team on a journey that commenced way back in the GFC era, Simon became a ‘disruptor’ among the buyer’s agency profession by pioneering borderless property investing in Australia.
Across all of those years, he has handpicked and invested in 24 individual cities across 6 states.
That firsthand exposure to numerous property market booms, flat periods and a couple of unwanted downturns is an unrivalled depth of experience containing umpteen great lessons.
Having studied Australian real estate history to the nth degree, Simon’s professional life has been devoted to acquiring a deep understanding of the complexities of property market performance.
There is no university degree or training course which teaches these things.
Over the years, Simon has generously shared parcels of his property market intelligence in countless research reports, hundreds of blogs, podcast interviews, media stories and social media posts.
He has a unique ability to explain complicated matters in ways that help people understand, including his ‘signature’ charts and social media graphics.
Longterm followers of Simon Pressley will recall the courage and great leadership that he displayed by trying to comfort 11 million Australian households during the onset of COVID-19.
Despite every bank and economist in the land publicly predicting the biggest downturn in Australian real estate history, Simon brought composure and calmness when [in this video in March 2020] he explained to the nation why they had no need to worry about the value of their biggest asset/s – instead explaining why one of the biggest property booms they’d ever seen would unfold within just a few months.
And he was bang on [refer this history making 5-years].
Simon’s distinguished track record proves that the against-the-grain pandemic forecast was no fluke.
“It will always be impossible for anyone to get it right all of the time, because there are very few things on the planet which are more complicated than property markets. I have a winning-and-learning attitude. Downturns and booms, the ability to understand the cause and effect of market performance in every location helps to sharpen the focus on the many inputs that influence performance.”
The below graphic contains a visual summary of some of Simon’s other thought-leading forecasts.
Prior to becoming a full-time national property market analyst, Simon was involved at the real estate transaction level as a buyer’s agent for several years.
Helping everyday Aussies invest in different states across the country, Simon was recognised as Australia’s Buyer’s Agent of the Year in three (3) consecutive years and subsequently inducted into the Real Estate Institute of Australia Hall of Fame.
In 2023, Propertyology was inducted into the REIQ Hall of Fame – testament to the firm being Queensland’s buyer’s agency of the year in 4 out of 5 years.
And Simon was awarded personal Fellowship of the REIQ in 2024.
An elite decision-maker, Simon is a Graduate of Australian Institute Company of Directors and former elite-level AFL Umpire.
Prior to pursuing a career in real estate, Simon gained valuable knowledge about banking, finance and credit. A 10-year career with Commonwealth Bank of Australia included roles in assessing credit applications, a broad appreciation for commerce, and understanding the importance of credit.
Subsequent to CBA, Simon owned and operated a mortgage broking business. In 2004, Simon was awarded Australian Mortgage Broker of the Year Award.
Simon has tertiary qualifications which include property investment advisory, financial planning and housing finance.
He is a proud advocate of humans being encouraged to be aspirational and to draw upon proven expertise to actively pursue financial independence.
For more than a decade, Simon has been extremely active with influencing the public narrative and government policy surrounding property investors (property taxes, rental legislation, etc). Here’s one of many examples of exercising leadership to support others.
Simon Pressley is happy to consider requests for being a keynote speaker at events.
